The number of children on the Child Protection Register in the Western Health Trust has increased by over 30% in the last year, according to figures released by the Department of Health.

The department said the rise was due to a large number of families returning to live in the area, and child protection cases becoming more complex.
The western Trust covers Derry, Limavady, Strabane, Omagh and Fermanagh.
Overall, 2,220 children were listed on the Register in Northern Ireland in September 2011, which represents a slight increase on the previous three months.
The South Eastern Trust has the highest number of children on the register-with 590 deemed at risk.
A child is placed on the register if they have been abused or are considered to be at risk of abuse.
